Why We Chose This Particular Material to Learn and Perform

Linkin Park - "Numb"

We chose Linkin Park's "Numb" to learn from because we all as a group knew the song well previously and we know that most of the expected audience will have too. The song also combines many different styles of music with elements including drum pads and keyboards providing a variety of sounds to replicate, and has also been covered by various people which meant there was a lot of reliable material to look at if we needed to refer to additional sources.

Metric - "Black Sheep"

We chose "Black Sheep" because the guitarist uses the whole neck of the guitar which exposed me to new places on the guitar that I may not have used before during a performance if another song had been chosen, in addition the basic solos and harmonies provide a base to develop from as well as making new songs easier to learn because I have done something similar before. Like our band Metric was also female fronted and had a similar band dynamic between each member and their roles when performing, this made the material easier to learn as nothing had to be majorly changed for us to be able to play the song.

The track is mostly bass and guitar driven which are aspects that we needed to improve as a band therefore through the choice of this song we could focus on building our areas of weakness, this means that we may not be showing our stronger aspects but by the end of learning this material we will be much more well rounded muscians than we were before.

Additionally Black Sheep has a specific music style to the genre of music that the audience is most likely to listen to which means they're more likely to feel positive about the performance as they can connect with the music style.
