Role: Studio Technician/Producer What have you learnt from today’s activity?
Today I have learnt how to communicate and meet the needs of a band and health and safety requirements in a recording studio scenario and I can understand what works and what doesn't when it comes to preparing a recording studio for use and recording a live band.
What impact did your actions have upon the team/s? Positive or otherwise.
My previous experience with setting up and preparing live sound events helped me to connect the microphones to the bath bay and designate them to the appropriate instrument and the room had been fully set up in reasonable and professional time, working with another person also definitely helped and we worked very well as a team and understood the professional standards we were aiming for. Whilst the live room was set up to standard the preparation on the computer's software was not set up correctly as the channel busses were not assigned to the correct patch bay number written on the wall resulting in the audio being recorded all together with only the keys and drums audible, also the tracks were recorded in stereo not mono which would make it harder to pan left and right in editing without duplicating the track.
Would you consider pursuing a University course or employment in the role you undertook?
Yes, although I was not on the computer recording the band I would like to go into self employment recording myself for tv, films, and albums, and doing commission recordings for other bands and artists.
