What aims do you have for your album?
To create a variety of instrumental tracks which could be used in videos and short films.
How productive have you been towards working on your album? What have you done so far and what do you need to do?
The album has not progressed from the initial experimental stage of composition due to my involvement with live sound rigging and audio engineering and because of limited and inexperienced composition skills when trying to write music.
Would you like your album to have a certain style/genre or are you planning on having a mixture?
I aim to create a variety of music combining influences from classic and modern day artists in the genres of metal, rock, punk, pop/alternative pop, and electronically programmed music. I chose to do this because I wanted to create an album that explored all of my interests in music and create something that is my own sound and style.
What skills are you going to need for your album? What skills do you believe that you need improve on to help with your production work and what actions are you to undertake to improve them?
.I will need to be able to play accurately and creatively across a variety of instruments to do this I will practice developing techniques on guitar and bass and will use MIDI inputs to create any other elements of the track.
Are you going to get other musicians to play on any tracks? If so why do you believe this will be beneficial for your work and if not why do you not want to?
No, If there are any other musicians working on the track they would be a vocalist, however I would prefer to have the work produced to be entirely my own work, while this may not be the best option it will be a more rewarding achievement for myself and it will also fit the use of the music much better with most of them being instrumental tracks.
What issues have you come across within you production works? What strategies could you put in place to avoid these issues from occurring?
The main issues with songwriting and production at the moment, apart from limited use of the studio due to live sound requirements are my recorded performances and musical composition skills, as a result I will set planned goals and targets for each session and rehearse the weaker areas of my musical ability which will make recording easier and less time consuming.
Pick something that you need to improve/work on;
- Attendance/Punctuality
- Communication
- Production Skills
- Attitude Towards Work
- Time Management
- Other: Improving my musical performance skills
Explain why this would be important for you to improve for college and routes after college. What are you going to do to make sure you improve this?
For college this is important for me to improve as I am aiming to create an album of mostly instrumental music which I would like to be of the highest standards that my musical ability will allow. After college this will be less of a concern as I am not looking to work within the music industry anymore. To make sure I meet my target within the deadlines I may have to compromise with my initial intentions for the album and include other artists to collaborate with on a piece of music, or remix/cover other artists' songs in a different way to the original composition.
What job role would you like to undertake for the O2 gig?
Audio Engineering and Tech Liaison/Support.
Why do you believe you would be good for this job and what skills do you have that would justify you undertaking it?
I have previous experience in this role from before joining the course and know how to set up a venue to a professional local standard.
What task/s does your job role require you to do and how are you going to make sure you complete them at a high standard?
My job role will require me to communicate effectively with artists and the venue crew to amend any problems with the setting up of equipment and to ensure the best possible sound and atmosphere is created for both the artist and their audience. To ensure I complete these tasks to a high professional standard I will have communicated observed the bands and established the requirements they would need (eg, a keyboard or acoustic guitars) and will work and communicate with the rest of the technical crew to ensure changeovers are smooth and professional and keeping to the time schedule minimising delays as effectively as possible without impacting on the artist's performance.
